MASTODON was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 60th annual Grammy Awards, which is being held tonight (Sunday, January 28) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. MASTODON was nominated for the song "Sultan's Curse" from its 2017 album "Emperor Of Sand". The nominees in the "Best Metal Performance" category were as follows: AUGUST BURNS RED - "Invisible Enemy" BODY COUNT - "Black Hoodie" CODE ORANGE - "Forever" MASTODON - "Sultan's Curse" MESHUGGAH - "Clockworks" This afternoon's pre-telecast ceremony, which is handing out 75 of the 84 categories, is taking place at the Theatre At Madison Square Garden, with Paul Shaffer hosting and leading the WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS BAND, which opened with an instrumental take on THE ROLLING STONES' "Bitch", the first time they've played together since "Late Night With David Letterman" went off the air. The presentation is being streamed live on Grammy.com and CBS.com. The Grammys are voted on by approximately 13,000 Recording Academy members, who are comprised of artists, songwriters, producers and engineers. More than 22,000 recordings were submitted for Grammys consideration this year. For 2018 awards, music must have been released between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017 in order to be eligible. Tonight marks the Grammy Awards' first return to New York City in 15 years. Madison Square Garden last played host to the Grammys in 2003.
