Former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum, who recently laid down drum tracks on a new song from ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin, was asked by The Musician's Ear if there are any plans for him to collaborate with Izzy again in the future. He said: "Izzy is great and his process is very rock and roll. He called, and within a couple days we were in the studio cutting a couple of songs. He gets the inspiration and goes with it — truly a great songwriter. You never know with Izzy. He could call tomorrow from Spain and say, 'Come over. Let's record.' I love that about him." Izzy's track "F.P. Money", with drums by Sorum, was released this past summer. It was recorded and mixed by J.T. Longoria at Brotheryn Studios and it also featured Damon Fox on keyboards, Tony Babylon on bass, Rick Richards on lead guitar and Stradlin on guitar and vocals. Stradlin previously stated about the collaboration: "Matt Sorum and I crossed paths earlier this year and both agreed it might be fun to one day throw down a new track and see what we get." Sorum, who replaced Steven Adler in GUNS N' ROSES, recorded "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" and "The Spaghetti Incident" (1994). He also supported the group on the "Use Your Illusion" tour and can be heard on GUNS N' ROSES' "Live Era: '87-'93" (1999) and "Greatest Hits" (2004). Izzy recently pushed back against singer Axl Rose's explanation for why Stradlin isn't involved with the current GUNS reunion, saying that "they didn't want to split the loot equally." Stradlin co-founded GUNS N' ROSES with childhood friend Axl Rose in 1985. He was a major contributor to the band's classic 1987 debut LP "Appetite For Destruction" and the two "Use Your Illusion" albums in 1991, but quit the group that same year. Stradlin has maintained a low profile over the years, resurfacing periodically to make several surprise appearances at GUNS shows, most recently in 2012. His last solo album, "Wave Of Heat", came out in 2010. Only Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan from the classic GUNS lineup have taken part in the current reunion, although "Appetite"-era drummer Steven Adler has shown up at a handful of dates to sit in on two songs with the group.
