Maverick guitars...

I tried a few of the lower end ones (practically the lowest ones they make I think) and wasn't particularly impressed personally...but that was the lowest models available, and I've heard god things about them in magazines, so methinks I just played the wrong ones to judge by.

Design-wise though, I think they have some excellent talent in that workshop of theirs - some of their necks (like the one thats half rosewood, half maple fretboard) are a nice idea, and i like how their volume and tone pots are arranged.

I'd like to try some of the slightly higher spec ones to see how they improve as the price goes up. Usually if a guitar range doesn't start getting good at about £500, I get a bit put off.

In terms of best budget guitars though....hmmm...its a toughie...my personal faves would probably be PRS SE's and the lower spec Peavey Wolfgang. Some of the SE's, like the Tremonti, play amazingly well for a guitar that price. If only they did a guitar with a floyd rose, though! I bought a Tremonti and love it, but I really could use a trem lol...

HMJ, you got a Maverick then? Which model have you got, and whats it like? I want a guitar with a trem sometime, maybe Maverick will be the way to go hehe, so what do you think of them? Any reccommendations?

I have a Maverick F-1 in tribal red so far and soon a custom Streetfighter on the way this christmas. I think the lowest model is the Maverick Chaos which may be the guitar you tried (I've never played one so I can't comment.) Personally, I really like the guitars in the F series (I also include the Streetfighter) one big reason is because of the lo-pro style tremolos, I find they lock into place extremely well and the arm is quite low down to the body for quick flicks and the like...

If I was you, I'd try one before you buy it just incase it was an F-1 which you previously played. I've never played any of the PRS SE's so i'll keep an eye out for them..
