I'm gonna be pretty acrid, they should have retired after "Cryptic Writings", Dave really had problems seeing the writing on the wall.

Considering their last album I'm very sure the final one will be a proof of T.S. Eliot poem:

"This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper"

I think Megadeth did a good job of releasing good stuff even after the thrash craze fell off, and after their return to form. Sad to see them go. I haven't been keeping up with their latest work, but I think I should give their last few a listen, because I really did like their 2000s comeback stuff.

Risk and Word Needs A Hero is where it's at!

The World Needs a Hero and The System Has Failed were great in my books, but everything since then has just seemed formulaic with the band taking no 'risks' at all. From a whole 6 albums I found maybe 2 songs interesting.

On the other hand, the fact the band's still going meant I got to see them live 6 times. Will try and catch them a 7th time even if I have to go to Australia. Can be a pain in the butt never knowing whether there'll also be an NZ date when an AU tour is announced.

The World Needs a Hero is a cool album. It's very experimental but still has some thrashiness to it. Usually, thrash comebacks tend to be "safe" in the sense that they usually see the band trying to recreate their early work in a more modern light. Megadeth's was a bit different, more a thrashy alt metal style. I'm less familiar with TSHF, but "Kick the Chair" is a great thrasher and "The Scorpion" does modern pop metal very well. After that, idk, but the individual tracks I've heard from those albums were really good.

A sad day. There are one of my top 3 favorite bands ever. The other are the rolling stones and twisted sister. Crazy the rolling stones started in 1962 and may possibly still be going after bands that started in the mid 70's and mid 80's hang it up

The Rolling Stones died 40 years ago and were replaced with advanced robots. These days when they are not touring they are going through upgrades to make them the latest model.
How the Round Earth Society members can't see this is beyond me, but then they also think man went to the moon as well.
