Dave Mustaine has canceled his appearance at this year's edition of the San Diego Comic-Con International. The MEGADETH leader, who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, was scheduled to sign copies of the band's graphic novel, "Death By Design", at the Heavy Metal magazine booth #1529 on Sunday, July 21 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Earlier today, MEGADETH released the following statement: "San Diego Comic-Con International fans, we have some good news/bad news. By doctor's orders, we need to cancel Dave Mustaine's appearance at Heavy Metal magazine's booth. But MEGADETH always covers its fans! An exclusive 12"x12" print will be given to buyers of the deluxe edition of 'Megadeth: Death By Design' signed by Dave Mustaine, Kiko Loureiro, David Ellefson and Dirk Verbeuren! "The signing, at Heavy Metal's San Diego Comic Con booth #1529, will include over a dozen writers and artists from 'Megadeth: Death By Design'. "Let's all send good wishes to Dave during his treatment and for a speedy recovery!" The 57-year-old Mustaine revealed his cancer diagnosis on June 17 on social media. He said that he has already begun treatment as part of a plan that his doctors feel has a "90% success rate." Although most of MEGADETH's previously announced 2019 tour dates have been canceled as Mustaine undergoes treatment, the MEGADETH-curated Megacruise — which is set to take place October 13-19 — will still depart as scheduled, and the band will be a part of it in some form. "Death By Design" features stories written and illustrated by top talent from the comics, film, television and music world inspired by the songs on MEGADETH's 35th-anniversary greatest-hits compilation, "Warheads On Foreheads". Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson are the two remaining original members of MEGADETH, which was formed in 1983, following Mustaine's dismissal from METALLICA.
