I haven't heard of Mekong Delta music yet but I wandering if someone could describe their music and history and what are their best album(s)?? you know basically start a thread.....

MK were originally comprised of two members of Living Death (namely the guitarists) and some other fellows from bands I forget. It was a long time ago but I think it was a case of the label issues or something as to why the went under pseudonyms. I never really caught up with their work as MK but I highly recommend the following Living Death albums "protected from reality" and "worlds neurosis):)

I don´t have all their albums, but occasionally I still listen to their eponymously titled debut and "The Music Of Erich Zann". "Dances Of Death" is also very interesting, because the title-track is probably one of the longest thrash-metal pieces. It´s about 20 minutes long, consists of different parts and is composed, as Ralph Hubert once said in an interview, as a Rondo. This album also features a cover-version of Mussorgsky´s "Night On A Bare Mountain".

Probably my favourite thrash metal band. I love all their albums but my favourites are "Vision Fugitives", "The Music Of Erich Zann" and "Dances Of Death". There were more technical and complex thrash metal bands than them (like Watchtower or Toxik) but Mekong Delta were pretty atmospheric and sick. Especially in "Vision Fugitives", they managed to play .. "emotional thrash" their music in general is pretty intense in a really psychotic way (mostly their 90s albums), it gives you a feeling that someone is constantly chasing you .. or something. Basically what made them special (for most of the world) were the covers of classical music themes they did (like the one Burkhard mentioned), especially "Pictures At An Exhibition", were they dedicated a whole album to cover the same titled Mussorgsky's piece.

Atmospheric and technical is the perfect description. Their sophomore album, "The Music of Erich Zann," is probably the most mature thrash album I've ever heard. Even fans of bands such as Ved Buens Ende and Neurosis can get into it. Their self-titled debut is a bit more straightforward, but has some of the weirdest riff constructions I've ever heard.

This is the worst fucking band ever. Avoid at all costs. Unless you find a place to buy their CDs, then you can totally let me know.

I looked around and basically all living death's albums are out print and only their first two albums are still in print but on the other hand all Mekong Delta albums are still in print only available as a import.sorta sucks....but I might check out some of Mekong Delta material....they seem interesting.
