Mercenary - Architect of Lies

I found this a few days ago as well, and have listened to the whole thing on MySpace several times. Definitely a great record! I'll buy this eventually I think.
Which is kinda surprising because in the past nothing I heard from Mercenary did really grab me.

i have known most of the Mercenary guys personally since the late 90´s, and the new shouter is also the singer in my band Transparent.
I think the new album is alot more focused and in the vain of their older material than the last two records were, for this album they wanted a more raw and in your face sound, and i think Jacob did a great job acheiving that.
i´m acually going to their release show tonight where they´ll perform all the new songs, i´m especially looking forward to hearing execution style and I am lies.

I have "11 Dreams" and really liked it. Listening to the new song is good, but the chorus in Bloodsong kinda made me cringe a little. I'll be honest and say upfront that I'm not the biggest fan of the higher pitched falsetto shit, depending on who's doing it. I can listen to King Diamond all day, but I cannot really stand 3 Inches Of Blood and a lot of other stuff...it's just a certain aspect of it that I don't like. Overall though, the music reminds me of older Soilwork, so I dig it.

Wow, this is now the 2nd Cd they've released since "11 Dreams"??? Man, I must've been living under a rock. I'm a huge fan of "11 Dreams" --the perfect cross between growls/screams and the Judas Priest / Iron Maiden epic singing style. I'll definitely have to check these 2 albums out.

If you guys haven't heard of them, check out the Sneap produced INTO ETERNITY album ... it's absolu-f*cking-tly amazing. I would choose Into Eternity over Mercenary any day.

I`m sorry to say I think that the new album is not even near as good as "The hours that remain". I cant understand why he persists to screaming like an upset girl on the new album. Absolutley no balls i that way of screaming. Hansen productions is great as always but "The hours that remain" is more comfortable to listen to.

Maybe I need to give the new album more time to sink in, great band though.

Cheers !

Love this album, their best yet i think!
I wasnt super keen on the high vocals on the last album but they r more agressive on this so i think they work well.

After listening to Architect more and more... it seems to have a very different feeling to it than say 11 Dreams or The Hours. It's hard for me to describe or put my finger on it... Does it seem more melodic and more of a "Gothenburg" sound to it? I'm really enjoying what i'm hearing.

Thanks for the recommend Kaz!! Cheers!

P.S. - Does anyone else think the singer's teeth remind them of Gollum from Lord Of The Rings?
