Metal 2025

My highlights for April:

Teitanblood - From the Visceral Abyss
Noisy squealing relentless death mental, exactly what I expected from them. Album closer "Tomb Corpse Haruspex" is totally unhinged.

Venator - Psychodrome
Just fantastically catchy and pounding heavy metal! Dare I say the closest to 80's Omen style we can get in modern times...

Forbidden Temple - In the Rotting Grave
Always pleasantly surprised when new black metal clicks with me, and this album fucking rules. The main riff for "Corpse and Satanic Thunder" is so cuntingly catchy. I pretty much know nothing about them except that they're Belgian. I plan to do a deep dive in the coming weeks.

Slough Feg - Traveller Supplement I: The Ephemeral Glades
Mike's slightly deteriorating vocals actually adds some extra guts to the sound. This EP is really good and having them return to the themes of Traveler is a nice touch. No real fat to trim here!

May highlights. Insanely solid month of discoveries, nothing here is below an 8/10:

Scimitar - Scimitarium I
3 guys from Slægt and 1 guy from Endless Glory create a weird blend of trad, prog and black metal. Even vaguely psychedelic at times, and with the woman's manic vocal style it's all quite unique. Really grew on me to the point that I think it's one of this year's absolute best albums.

Sijjin - Helljjin Combat
Love how much more varied this material is compared to their debut. Crushing mid-paced tech-deathrash with an armoury filled with deadly riffs.

Interceptor - Metal Death
The whole album crushes hard. Top tier Venom-worship with some Bathory sprinkled in.

Crimson Storm - Livin' on the Bad Side
Ridiculously infectious Italian speed metal and just a solid as fuck debut front to back. Right on that speed edge without becoming full blown Riot-esque power metal.

Black Sword Thunder Attack - S/T
USPM gem that obviously (and unashamedly) worships at Warlord/Lordian Guard's feet. Didn't fully hit me on the first listen, my ears had to adjust to the production, but it's of course worth the effort. Total magic.

Synteleia - Sands of Madness
Might be my favourite material by them so far, especially with this more 80's production job. "Fane of the Black Pharaoh" is an amazing tune.
