theres this fine girl in one of my classes and the only way I can stop thinking about her romantically is to listen to metal. For that I say it kills my soul for awhile, until I have to face reality again. But I can't listen to mercyful fate's melissa cause thats her name.

Y'know, metal does the same thing to me. If I don't want to think about romantic stuff, a girl, happy things, or generally anything that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, i just crank up the music and it all goes away. That is NOT the reason WHY i listen to metal, i enjoy, it sounds good to me, but that's just something it does for me. Maybe i'm too busy "rockin' out" to think about that shit. But a good song can always give you some feeling, like shock, awe, chills, old memories, what have you, as well, but music can shut out feelings that weren't caused by the music. I'm just rambling at this point, I hope i didn't confuse you, because I sure confused myself...:hypno:

To me is not working, because I always found lyrics that remind me of a situation. When I broke with someone a couple of years ago, I couldn't hear some songs for a while because them remind me of her.

Also some years ago I was always singing Deep Purple 'Strange Kind Of Woman', because my girlfriend was called Nancy, her face was nothing fancy and it was like in the song :tickled:

I usually use metal to get rid of anger or depression. But as a distraction from "wounds of the heart" is useless in my case.

You are my life, my everything, you're all I have
You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true
You're all I have
Please heed me now these words I have to say - Thin Lizzy

I thought I'd come to you and say
Everything within my heart
I just can't look the other way
And wait for us to grow apart
Then I think ... WHAT'S THE POINT? - Spock's Beard

Love me or leave me, tell me no lies,
Ask me no questions, send me no spies,
You know love’s a thief, steal your heart in the night,
Slip through your fingers, you best hold on tight. - Motorhead

Love conquers all
This one will last a lifetime
And if love conquers all
This one will last forever - Deep Purple

love is like a flame
it burns you when it’s hot
love hurts......ooh,ooh love hurts - Nazareth

Softly you stir
Gently you moan
Lust's in the air
Wake as I groan
In the dead of night love bites
Love bites you
Invites you
To feast in the night
Excites you
Delights you
It drains you to white
Love bites - Judas Priest

I realize some songs remind and stuff, but thrash and death metal just rip out any of those feelings and you just thrash around. Thats just a nice little bonus I get from metal. Whenever I go to that class it has to be one of those two.

If I'm playing music, everything around me gets drowned out. I'm weird like that. It pisses my girlfriend off to no end. If she stands in front of me and demands to be heard, I play drums on her.

hey, that is interesting, I always wondered if a non metalhead girlfriend would like you being a metalhead (from the simpsons "its either becky or his heavy metal") I dont think I would ask anyone out in my metalvest, but thats just me.

It's interesting to say the least. The cool thing is, she'll go to shows. She actually enjoyed seeing Behemoth, Deicide, and Amon Amarth. When she's at home, she hates it when I play it, especially when I'm playing really heavy stuff because it shakes the whole place. She likes Priest, Maiden, Primal Fear, Katatonia, Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth, Evergrey, and Iced Earth but she's a closet metalhead. She normally listens to classic rock or hip hop.

Ahh she's listening to metal because she loves you, I bet if she wasn't with you she wouldn't listen to it at all.

Hmmm.... music tends to envoke emotions, not remove it. Of course, depending on the band and song, it gives me different emotions. I love vocalists (as well as guitarists, drummers, bassists and some keyboardists >:P~) though I prefer presentation as opposed to the lyrics themselves. That's not to say there aren't a handful of songs and or bands that I really get into as far as lyrics, but I think a vocalist that can express emotion is more important than the actual words coming out of his/her mouth.

Yeah you really need to have an emotionally expressive vocalist. Take My Dying Bride, you can really hear his pain when you listen to the cd.

Yep, though I can't relate specifically with that band, an emotic vocalist is really more important in my ears as one that is technically profecient, though the combination of both is unstoppable like in early Geoff Tate (Queensryche.) Of all the fans of different genres of metal, I would be surprised to find many people that didn't think "Operation Mindcrime" kicked ass. I am a guitarist and love guitar, but Geoff is what stole the show on that release.

When I was a younger man I used to like having sex to Yngwie (not with Yngwie mind you >:P~) because he changed tempo and intensity so often in his early work. Now that I am 35, it's a little more of a challenge. It's funny that they make Viagra for people with weinie problems. Mine still works great but the back isn't what it used to be. I need to invent some Backagra and I will dust off "Rising Force" more often. >:P~

Ha ha, I made up an alternative lyric version of that for a girl I knew. She wasn't too happy but my mates loved it :D

1. Slayer - all
2. Destruction - all
3. Machine Head - all
4. Testament - The Gathering & First Strike Still Deadly
5. Death - first three
6. Over Kill - all I have yet
7. Exodus - all I have yet
8. Dark Angel - first two
9. The Haunted - same
10. Arch Enemy - all with the chick screaming

I was trying to be funny so I apprecite someone liked it but I was being a bit serious as well. I don't want to turn this post into some kind of sex thing, but my willy an pretty much do whatever I want it to on command. I mean all it does is hang around all day while the rest of my body has to work.
Life must be good being a dick. Maybe that is where the phrase came from when it comes to your bosses. They always are hanging around, don't do a hell of a lot, but pretty much dictate what you are going to do when they want to.
