On a previous thread I posted, a few people have been asking about some of the various legends, myths, and rumors floating around about some of the heavy metal icons.

What legends, myths, and rumors has everybody heard? Are they true?

Here's a common one to get things started:

Ulver supposedly recorded "Nattens Madrigal" in the forrest to achieve a more natural grim and dark sound.

As far as I know, this is not true.

Or that they spent the Advance from CM to buy Armani suits.

Dead of Mayhem buried his clothes for a couple of weeks in the woods and wore it on stage. I think this is true.
Euroneymous and Dead were annoyed with each other and Euroneymous at one point said "Why don't you just go kill yourself?" and Dead did! I don't know if this is true. There also some speculations about if Euroneymous killed Dead, as the knife on the picture (off the infamous "Dawn of the black hearts" album cover) lays on top of the gun!
Euroneymous sold pieces of Dead's skull to fans! I don't know if this is true either.
I don't know if there's more. If you understand Danish I recommend to check out the Danish band Red Warszawa's song "Norsk black metal" which is a funny song about black metal!

1. Euronymous reportedly cooked and ate pieces of Dead's brain. 2. Euronymous, in turn, was stabbed to death while in his underwear by the band's bass player, Count Grishnackh. Grishnackh's motive was jealousy over the fact that Euronymous had a more evil reputation; he inflicted 23 separate wounds, it was also rumored, so as to outdo rival band Emperor's drummer, Faust, who was convicted in the stabbing death of a homosexual acquaintance.
3. When Grishnackh was arrested, they found stolen dynamite in his house, and a plan to blow up a large church on a religious holiday.
4. Euronymous' parents requested that his bass tracks be erased from Mayhem's album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

Didn't work.

No, Ulver didn't record "Nattens Madrigal" in a forest, nor did they record it on a 4-track. If that album is not recorded in a (semi-)professional studio, I will wear a brown paper bag on my head for two weeks.

That would require taking the sock that's currently on your head off.

I'm afraid you'll be spared from wearing that bag.. I read an interview with Garm who said he spent hours in the studio (probably quite an expensive one) stripping the sound down untill he was happy with it...

Here's some of the more far-out ones that I've heard:

- Daphne and Celeste were booked to play Wacken as "special guests" the year they got bottled at Reading, but they chickened out after that. They planned to do a girl-pop version of "Freezing Moon" as part of their set.
- King Diamond is a castrato.
- Hellhammer once played drums for Slipknot, but he used the regular mask so nobody noticed the change.
- Yngwie Malmsteen's music is performed by an anonymous session musician; he just mimes, including his improvised solos.

All are extremely doubtful, but they make good rumours.

And speaking of rumors, I heard that Tori Amos did a cover version of Slayer's "Raining Blood". Anyone know if this is true or not?
True. It's on her latest album, "Strange Little Girls".

Truth. It's on her album "Strange Little Girls"
However, aside from the lyrics, you can't tell it's the same song.

The reason why the knife is on top, is because the founder of his body (I think it was Necrobutcher) planted it like that, so he could set up for a picture... The brainstuff is true enough...

Cheerz!

D&C were a short-lived British pop group. Two irritating teenage girls. They had three hit singles, one of which was a cover of the old Alice Cooper song "School's Out". Some idiot booked them at the Reading rock festival, where they didn't go down well, and they haven't done anything since.

I've actually got the Tori Amos version on CD. Believe me, it's not easy to make Slayer songs boring, but Ms Amos manages it in style.

As far as I know it was Euroneymous who found the body. Necrobutcher isn't too happy with "Dawn of the black hearts", as it has the picture of Dead on it. He commented it in a Metalized magazine I have and I also asked him about it at last years Roskilde festival.
I'm also a bit surprised to hear that Hellhammer wore Dead's brain (or skull, which sounds more likely to me) as jewelry. When I talked to him at last years Roskilde Festival he seemed very nice and normal and not a guy who would do that kind of stuff, but maybe he has changed, as I've also heard that that "I love transylvania" 7" has a picture of him with a swastika on the arm. It was also Hellhammer I think that said that Euroneymous might had killed Dead.
Hey Ormir, is that Mortiis stuff from his website? I remember I saw something like that there once.
