Metal with Ambience

I am a huge fan of metal with a lot of ambience in it and I'm certain a few of you here are also. I think this'll generate some excellent discussion of the music.

By 'metal with ambience', I mean metal that is specifically made to generate some deep thought and concentration, or perhaps even convey a story.

I'm trying to get into Portal. They strike me as more of a winter band, though, as does most ambient metal.
