Sonisphere festival was AMAZING musically, but the one thing that really blew me away aurally (except how much lars needs to get more consistent with his kicks) was metallica's clean guitar sound, in particular hetfield's

was anyone else there, anyone have a clue how they got EMGs to sound that amazing clean?

not really too clued up on metallica's rig, and sorry to derail your thread, but sonisphere was awesome. i thought metallica were really awful though, as you said lars was sloppy (changing beats around ALL the time) as well as missing about 3/4's of his kicks. timing in general seemed a bit all over the place with them. AIC and mastodon smashed it though!

There was a thread on here awile ago that had links to metallicas live rig videos, IIRC James had his cleans running through a Roland and into a bunch of other shit. sorrry not much help someone here has the link.

He has been pretty consistent with his use of a JC-120 (used to be a combo now it is in the head version) for cleans live since at least the "... and Justice" tour.

I was at the Sonisphere festival myself and I must say I was blown away by Metallicas performance. I've never seen a more professional band. Machine Head and LOG were pretty awesome aswell.

I saw the second half of the LOG show, and the entire Metallica show, and i completely agree with you.
Sure, it wasn't a FLAWLESS show, but it was a really good one!

.. fuck, i thought i was Metallica / Lars / Kirk-hater, but apparently not!

And LOG was awesome.. i heard some people talk about them sucking live here on this forum? I do not agree with you guys! ;)
Chris and Mike was tight as a holy mindfuck, and Randy's vocals where pretty damn good as well.

Metallica, like Iron Maiden as in a previous thread, are one of those bands that I go to see at least once a tour despite whether they have disappointed or not me with their studio output on any given disc. I can honestly say a Metallica concert has yet to ever disappoint me.

Mike? you mean Mark right?

Didn't go to Sonisphere, but I did see Metallica back at Download 06. Hetfield's clean sound was glorious. It sounds as though he hasn't changed his setup.

Sorry, mixed up the names!
Meant Mark.. and he definitely played at Sonisphere Sweden, unless Buzz Mcgrath gained 100 pounds, grew a massive beard and started to play Jacksons between UK and Sweden!
