James Hetfield visited the Vail, Colorado fire and police departments on Wednesday (December 20) to share the holiday spirit with firefighters and police officers. The METALLICA frontman stopped by with his daughter to deliver Starbucks gift cards courtesy of the band's All Within My Hands Foundation. Hetfield lives in Vail, where his wife Francesca grew up. The two have been married for nearly 20 years and have three teenage children. James said last year that he moved his family from the San Francisco area, where he and METALLICA have been based for 34 years, to Vail, because he didn't feel as if he belonged in the Bay Area anymore. "I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit," he said. "They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it's fine if you're diverse like them. But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn't fly in Marin County. My form of eating organic doesn't vibe with theirs." METALLICA recently partnered with Starbucks and Spotify as part of the "Give Good" charity campaign this holiday season. Special limited-edition METALLICA-branded gift cards were available late last month at 8,000 Starbucks locations nationwide, with proceeds from the effort being donated to All Within My Hands. Chance The Rapper's Social Works and Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation are also recipients of donations from Starbucks and Spotify, which will total $1 million. All Within My Hands is "dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services," acccording to the foundation's web site. The foundation was launched last February with the goal of "making the world a better place through local community support." METALLICA played a benefit show last month in San Francisco to raise money for victims of the recent Northern California wildfires. The band will resume its "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct" world tour in February after the holidays.
