METALLICA's 'WorldWired' Tour Grosses $37 Million From Eight Shows

METALLICA has topped Pollstar's LIVE75 chart based on a sold-ticket average of 46,439 from the final six European performances on the band's "WorldWired" tour, as well as the two-night event with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the opening of San Francisco's Chase Center. Box office revenue from all eight concerts hit $36.6 million from 371,514 sold tickets at seven venues. The spring/summer 2019 leg of METALLICA's European tour commenced on May 1 at Estádio do Restelo in Lisbon, Portugal and included 25 dates across the continent, closing at Mannheim, Germany's Maimarktgelände on August 25. The trek visited 20 countries in total, with stop in cities METALLICA didn't play on part one of the European "WorldWired" leg, which was an indoor arena tour. Five of the six European stadium concerts METALLICA performed in May grossed a combined $28 million thanks to an average attendance of more than 58,000. Twenty-one of the shows on the 2019 North American leg of "WorldWired" grossed a total of $41.7 million, good for an average per-show gross of $1.99 million. With an average attendance of more than 16,000, the band moved nearly 350,000 tickets altogether. The San Francisco Bay Area metal giants have been touring in support of their latest album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", which came out in November 2016.
