ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott says that he can see Jeff Loomis "having a bigger part" in the songwriting process for the band's future albums. Although Loomis has already been in ARCH ENEMY for three years, the guitarist didn't contribute any of the music to the group's latest album, "Will To Power". As on ARCH ENEMY's previous releases, Amott composed most of the instrumental parts on the new disc, which marks singer Alissa White-Gluz's second full-length effort with the band. Loomis, the driving creative force in his former band NEVERMORE, confirmed to Guitar World magazine that Amott asked him at one point during the "Will To Power" songwriting process if he had any songs to offer. "When they started writing, the album came together really fast," Loomis said. "I did submit three songs, but I think I might have missed the deadline. I feel really bad about that, but at the same time, I didn't want to be the new guy coming in saying, 'Okay, here's a bunch of new songs I wrote. Let's go record them.' So I only did those three and honestly, I don't think they were in the ARCH ENEMY style." "I feel lucky just to have Jeff playing solos on the record," said Amott. "I know he is such a high-profile guitar player and his role in ARCH ENEMY is not what people might expect. I've always written most of the music in this band and that's what I do. Right now, he is more about playing guitar solos and he seems to really get that." Amott added that he hoped he could collaborate with Loomis on some new music during weeks off from ARCH ENEMY's "Will To Power" world tour, which will last at least eighteen months. "It's so easy to work with Jeff and he has such a great attitude that I can't imagine having any problems," Michael said. "And I can see him having a bigger part writing in the future. Of course, that won't change the band. We have been around for a long time and we have a certain sound, so our direction is always pretty similar. It's just evolving and becoming more refined, and I think Jeff will be able to be a big part of that." "Will To Power" was released on September 8 via Century Media Records. Co-produced by Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, the disc was mixed and mastered by longtime collaborator and friend Jens Bogren (OPETH, AT THE GATES, DIMMU BORGIR). The album's cover artwork was designed by Alex Reisfar.
