mic'ing the ride

from my experiences, mic'ing from underneath really reduce bleed, u can try using a large diaphragm mic like Akg c414 close to the bell.. i also like to use a CAD CM-15 on the top, close to the bell, it gives a brigther tone, but increases the bleeding

also some filter if you don't want to take the volume down. i don't like to cut down volume to that, i think the bleed is part of the whole natural sound of the drums (when it's not that excessive lol)

I normally use a pencil condensor, mic under the ride, near the bell and closest to the area where the stick hits.

It just depends.

I do that what seems to be best in the individual scenario. Often that is under the cymbal. But sometimes you will get big amounts of floor tom in the mic, reflected by the cymbal surface. Things like that realy messing up the phase. Sometimes a nice sideeffect of "over the cymbal" could be when there is a remote hat or a splash etc without an extra mix. If you fiddle around a little you might be able to get that stuff as well.

Yea, Gainriding the ride is cool. That way you can accent certan pings and parts etc.
