I know theres a Musicians Forum, but fuck them.

The Shure SM51 or whatever for $100 is the standard cheap thing to get right? Should be good for vocals and micing tin whistles? I can't bear with the poor mics built in my recorder anymore.

SM57 can do alot of things
sm 58 is supposed to be more for vocals only I think

I'm about to get one soon too, I'm its gunna be a 57

I've always used the SM58 and never had any complaints.

And if Warrel says it, it has to be true.

The SM58 has a little better reception than the SM57 around the cone...in the 57 you have to sing directly into the top of the microphone. The 58 is the rock/metal industry standard.

I have a Shure SM58 sitting here in the studio that will probably finally be used this weekend. i would go with the 58 over the 51, same price too.
