FAITH NO MORE frontman Mike Patton won't sing the U.S. national anthem at today's (Saturday, January 12) NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys after all. "Sorry, football folks, I woke up feeling horrible," he wrote in a Facebook message this afternoon. "No anthem today for me!" It was announced yesterday that Patton would voice his rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" prior to the game's kickoff, which is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET / 5:15 p.m. PT, at LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. Patton is still expected to participate in the upcoming benefit concert in memory of late SOUNDGARDEN and AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell. Billed as "I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell", the event will take place at the Forum in Los Angeles on January 16. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the show will feature performances from FOO FIGHTERS and METALLICA, as well as appearances from Cornell's former bandmates in SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE, TEMPLE OF THE DOG and more. Patton's latest release was the self-titled EP from DEAD CROSS, which came out last year via Ipecac Recordings. FAITH NO MORE's first LP after an 18-year hiatus, "Sol Invictus", arrived in 2015. Over the years, Patton has recorded and toured with a number of different projects, including FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE, TOMAHAWK, FANTÔMAS and DEAD CROSS. In 2018, Patton's score for the Netflix adaptation of Stephen King's "1922" got a physical release. It marked the singer's fourth score for a full-length movie; Patton previously scored the films "Crank: High Voltage" (2009), "The Solitude Of Prime Numbers" (2010) and "The Place Beyond The Pines" (2012).
