You'll notice the mix varies a bit between chunks of the sample but that'd because these are a few slightly different mixdowns all through the same mastering chain.

But yeah, hyper edited because they were super sloppy and there was no possible middle ground to be had with these guys. Sux but what you gon' do.

Digging the fuck out of this drum sound though

Anyway, I'm only really putting this up cos I haven't posted jack SHIT outside of off topic tavern lately, so have at it! \o/

dude, the drum sound is realy great ! :D
also the bass is a real kickass
about the guitars they sound good but I wanted to sound more 1k in those guitars..

what are the drums ? real or programmed?
good job man , realy like :D

This using my room samples on snare? Sounds badass dude.

Bass sounds like a clean guitar pitched down in that second clip. Not a bad sound but weird.

May be me but the kick sounds like its panned right the tiniest bit.

I agree the guitars need some more mids.

I'm digging the drum sound dude! The guitars could do a bit more mids, but they sound pretty good. What did you use for the bass? and are the drums SD2? They sound so good :D

orly @ kick
Im pretty sure it's dead center but I'll check it out \o/

and guitars were weird, like the worst DI's ever, I'll put an example up in a bit. it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to get a workable sound from them so I've had to go with something that isn't really a good tone but sort of works on a different level. so i went for a mega scooped, punchy as fuck sound, but yeah I agree, more mids could be useful. what id really like is to brighten them up a bit, but their playing is so scratchy and the DI's are so bad that it's like total ear rape.

and the bass is all an actual bass guitar, again, problems getting a good bass sound because the guy plays like the strings are fucking daisy chains.

Kick is 100% replaced with just a blend of like 6 samples. Very little processing, think I just fucked with the 2-5khz area somewhat then cut and boosted at 100hz and 60hz respectively. i cant really remember though. I usually get my kick sounds like 95% there before I even take to EQ'ing.
Snare is about.. hm 35/65 s2.0/samples. processed the snare then added aptrigga on my snare bus and added like another 4 or 5 samples. 2 of them were a slate close mic and a slate room mic. Might have been snare 11 but i cant remember. id pinned down the drum sound before you made your room samples morgan, but im starting a pop punk album mix today so I'll probably use it on there.

to me the kit feels not like one piece, i think it could use an ambience where all the parts come together (i always have a drumambience group ((rverb)) when working with samplereplacement).
but if the band likes it, its all good, just personal preference.

also id like more presence overall, have you tried the uad manleymassive passive on the masterbus ? a little 13-15k would open up the mix.
had the demo a few weeks ago, really opened up all my mixes. (wished i had 250 $ right now for that..)

overall i like it though and i think you nailed the vibe of the band. also i guess all the issues (except for disconnected drumkit) could be fixed when mastering.

good job dude!

I have got the drums all going to a verb, maybe I should turn it up a bit?

I have got the drums all going to a verb, maybe I should turn it up a bit?

yeah maybe try that. most of the times its actually enough to only add room samples to the snare and turn them up a little so the snare "gels" better with the rest. i do that with real snares + slate rooms - works wonders.

also id try an impulse of a great drumroom if the verb doesnt do the job. the better the reverb/impulse the less youll have to use to get a more 3d sound.
i like rverb for this. but more for slower stuff, for faster stuff early reflections alone might also work.

Gonna try this in a minute. You reckon I should process the verb at all or just leave as is?

Kick needs something to gel it into place a bit better, i feel like it's a tad too clicky. Vocals are quite quiet too! LOVE the snare!!
