Misery Inc - 'For Your Misery Only'
By Mark Bridgeman
'Black Dawn' mixes traditional metal riffage with contemporary song structures, particularly in its chorus. Imagine Finnish melody (perhaps the purest in the sometimes-too-generic metal scene) with that sweet ol' Swedish aggression and that is Misery Inc, a 5-piece from Helsinki. Not bad for a band that's not even a year old. The song is catchy without being cliched, and while still sitting firmly in the almost-power-metal camp, it somehow manages to rock like a bastard.
'No More', the second track of this 3 piece EP, is more generic in its approach, but nevertheless a strong moment. The hook of the chorus is what catches you; melody (and not all melody is pretty flowers and sunshine) is Misery Inc's strongsuit - then again, they are Finnish...
'Dreams To End', not as strong as the preceding tracks, is slightly metal-by-numbers but still worth a place on this far-too-short EP.
Misery Inc., if they can keep at what is obviously working for them, could have a solid place in the metal scene to come
7/10
