Mix advice please!

You know the drill! Just need some opinions on what needs to be better.
There are some timing issues in the beginning so ignore that.

The drums sound very bland and get buried in the mix really easily. They need more energy. Guitars also have some low-mids that could be cut out to make the bass more present. Overall it sounds like the mix just needs energy and glue, a short mastering chain will get you there pretty quick.

Thanks for the info! I know my snare sounds very dull which is my primary objective to fix. I tried mixing in a room track to add a little more energy it didn't help as much as I had hoped. I will work on these things as well as finish recording vocals tonight. I'll put up a new mix when it's ready

In the future, try to upload the file to dropbox and stick it in your "public" folder as opposed to making us download it. In terms of the mix, i agree about the drums getting buried, I would add some lowend to the kick, that's just me though, i like the guitar tone. The bass it pretty nice too, what is it?

Okay I'll keep that in mind haha. The bass is actually zombass > TSE BOD >Pod Farm Adam and Eve with the default cab > kefir, can't remember which impulse though

How good is Zombass for metal compared to Trilian? Im kinda digging my tone im getting out of Trilian with the Hardcore slapping setting. Im not digging how it sounds when tremolo picking however, is Zombass any better at that or should i get Texas Grind Bass which has alternate picking but costs twice as much?

I have no idea, zombass is the only one i'be used. But I imagine the Texas grind bass is pretty good. Zombass 2 just came out a few weeks ago and I think it does alternate picking too.
But as far as zombass 1 goes, it gets the job done but I would never have it in a part by itself. It does sound pretty good with a real bass that's missing some balls

Zombass 2 and texas grind are the same thing, the only real difference is tone. ZB2 is really neat, there's lots of different settings for alt picking (NOT a feature exclusive to texas grind), fret noise, harmonics, slides and note bends, and multiple velocity layers. ZB1 was good but unrealistic-sounding on its own, ZB2 can totally stand on its own two feet in a solo'd section. Taylor's $10 ZB2 'grind' tone has impressed me so far.

So which between Texas Grind Seth Munson Edition and Zombass 2 would you recommend? I really like that you get 3 presets with the Seth Munson pack, and you only get a clean preset with the Zombass 2 and you have to pay 10$ extra for presets for the Zombass make me lean more towards the Texas Grind. Which one would you choose?
