Mmm... new Reverend Bizarre album goooood....

Just listening to Harbinger Of Metal, and by goat it's slooooww... track 4's about 20 minutes long, and about 10 minutes of that is the most lysergic, lurching drum solo ever... it just keeps stopping, then you think 'here's where the crashing power chord's gonna come in...' - but then it doesn't, there's just a pause and another drum roll, then again, and again... it's an agonisingly anti-climactic work of genius in its own right...

It's weird - it should irritate the hell out of you, but it seems to work on some level - like, the disappointment you feel on not being pummelled by the chords is synergistic with the level of misery inherent in the music - it just keeps on leading you on and goading you into listening further, waiting for a pay-off that gradually seems to be unlikely ever to come - but then finally, it does...

It sounds like a chick tonguing your balls and slurping on your helmet, and then leaving just as you're about to blow. Would that be an accurate assessment?

Reverend Bizarre can play that slow torturous stuff on one song, then follow it up with a remake of some Burzum. JayKeeley will definitely like these guys. If you're into all that doom stuff now, you really need to pay attention to this band.

As long as it's like that, but not exactly that, I'm game. :tickled:

Today, I got a nice package from Red Stream. It contained Pantheist and Thergothon, and a cute little album by Lake of Tears.

Here's my new shopping list:

Place of Skulls - With Vision
Reverend Bizarre - Harbinger of Metal
Scald - something
Solitude Aeturnus - the new re-release
Dragonauta - their latest

I found this website called Brainticket Records (http://www.brainticket.com/) but I'm not sure how cool they are. Their catalog is teh roxxkoxoxox!!1

So what do you think of the shopping list. Anything to add/remove?

Personally, I think The Hidden Hand 'Divine Propaganda' would make you grow a third nut. It is Wino's new band. He is also in Place of Skulls, but his actual band is The Hidden Hand. I pretty much guarantee Terrorizer will have it in the top 5 for 2003.

This is a surprise. Personally, I don't think you will like Scald, knowing that you aren't into grind too much. I did notice that you bid on the 2CD Irish Metal Comp on eBay. THat has one of the best Scald songs on it, so if you don't like it, you won't like Scald at all. There are a bunch of good songs on that comp though, but a lot of not-so-good stuff as well.

Plus, Scald's stuff isn't easy to come by, especially the OOP demos, of which I'm still missing 1 out of the 3.

Here: www.scald.me.uk

I don't think he found an album, he found the 2CD Irish Metal compilation called In Unison, which has one of Scald's best songs on it. The only place I know of tht is selling Sclad's "Headworm" is the band for $15 p/p and www.sentinelireland.com

The demos are way OOP. I've had to trade for the two I have.Still searching for one of them. But I talked to the band, and they said they will probably be printing some more due to demand.

Bloody hell - what are you, CIA!? You're right though - keep me away from the grind. :erk:

Actually, the Scald I refer to are the Russian Viking Doom band, and the release is called Will of the Gods is Great Power. It is supposed to be very good, in the vein of Solitude Aeturnus meets Candlemass with all that Pagan/Viking underlying theme. They split in '96, but this is a re-release.

As mentioned earlier, brainticket is the place to visit.

oh, OK. Two Scalds, huh? Gotcha.

That comp has some stuff you might like: Arcane Sun (one song from Fade, which you have), Mourning Beloveth, Mael Morda, Geasa.....

But I'd love to know what you think of the Scald song, haha, should be interesting.

I might be CIA.....

Yes, although only the Russian band are listed at doom-metal. And for some reason, I thought the Irish grind-sludge band were spelled Skald...but obviously not. I think there is a band called Skald somewhere though.

If I win it. :erk: I listened to a Mourning Beloveth sample today, and I liked it.

How did you know that was my eBay username anyway? :D

not too hard to figure out for us CIA types.... haha

Mourning Beloveth are very good doom/death. Their song on that comp is one of their best IMO.

I really think a lot of folks in this forum will like Geasa. Doomy pagan metal. Erik would especially dig their Starside demo, which can be found on their latest release, Fate's Lost Son.

My sig says it all, hehe.

JayKeeley, I would also pick up In The Rectory of The Bizarre Reverend, which I think is even better than Harbinger of Metal. My fav on Harbinger would be "The Wandering Jew" and the Burzum remake "Dunkelheit."

Nathan, The Hidden Hand rules. I actually just picked up the cd today at the store.

Dreamlord - considering those investigative skills you possess, from this day on, I shall imagine you as Magnum PI. :loco:

OK I'll look into these recommendations you guys dished out.

I take it then that nobody's ordered from Brainticket? It seems like a good site - a tad expensive what with the US dollar being worth diddly these days, and I'm not sure how long it takes them to ship...

Otherwise, any good sites that sell these types of doom titles?
