Monstrosity, perhaps best know as George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher's old band, have been one of the bands at the forefront of the legendary Florida death metal scene for around 13 years, and after just one listen to their latest platter of brutal deathliness, 'Rise To Power', it's very easy indeed to see why. Their consistency and ability to churn out groove-laden, technical riffery coupled with sickening low-end pummellings, near-Death quality shredding lead guitar work and their ability to craft individually memorable songs shows a band at the peak of their creative abilities.

'The Exordium' kicks off the album with an instantly memorable riff, variations of which lie buried beneath the mid-track solo as the song twists and turns on it's way, never losing the groove. By way of comparison, 'The Fall Of Eden' begins with some excellent, atmospheric acoustic guitars, before both guitarists harmonise on an achingly brilliant solo, then the song kicks in properly, with yet another irresistably groovy riff. The vocals throughout are diverse enough to command the attention, and the production is near-perfect (although the snares could do with being higher in the mix, methinks).

A perfect example of why Monstrosity are still so respected in the death metal scene. Any fan of Florida-style brutal death metal owes it to him (or her)self to purchase this as soon as possible.
