I just listened to "The Unborn." Everyone is calling this piece of shit a "masterpiece of atmospheric melodic death." You know what? Placing the soundtrack to a cheesy movie or RPG videogame in the background of a really shitty attempt at ripping off Dark Tranquillity's "The Gallery" doesn't quite strike me as a "masterpiece of atmospheric melodic death."

Anyone else find this to be an overrated, corny piece of shit?

You buy into hype way too much, I ignore anything new that's called "OMG THE FUTURE OF MELODEATH" or somesuch. BTW: The Haunted is the future of thrash metal, and also Hatebreed

Well hey, I decided since I'm going to BWBK to look into them, and I figured with all the hype that they were going bad. I just didn't figure that they'd be THIS bad.

Most albums with a lot of hype suck. People lose their judgment to the reputation of the band/album instead to focus on the music. Well.. that's what happens with most commercial bands.

Actually, what I heard off the new MPE wasn't that bad. It sure wasn't The Gallery, but what is these days?

That is the case sometimes. An anamoly, I think, would be Mastodon's Leviathan, which garnered rave reviews from virtually every printable source on the planet...except SSMT. Blatant against-the-grain review?

I haven't heard the new one yet, but I enjoyed Inhumanity alot, really solid riffs and solos. I also thought they didn't sound like Bodom, the melodic similarities are there, but that's where it ends, the generalization of the finnish melodic sound IMO.

Alright I just heard Altered State Consciousness and a couple other demos from their official site, and I must say it sounds just as good if not better than Inhumanity. The guitar and vocals have more punch now, and their own sound is developing well. I'll have to hear the rest of the album before I judge it though.

And on a side note, why do people go out of there way to discuss there hate? sure not everyone likes MPE, but there really is no need to make an entire topic about how much you are displeased with them.

Well, Jean-Pierre is a whiny bitch

You're the one who enjoys inserting his genetalia into housewares, correct?

There's every reason to make this topic. It was actually a good discussion until J Mann started being the forum hippy. Too bad, unlike *omgAelxi88*, his post wasn't actually a joke.

This is true a lot. For example....the new Devin Townsend came out in December with like...no publicity, just found out about it a week or so ago. I haven't heard it yet....but....it's Devy.

^_^

"minmal fanfare" as Devin said.

Hevy Devy Records said:
"(Devlab) is an experiment in sounds Devin calls "heavy metal ambience". It's
more like across between the EKO techno project (from the Accelerated Evolution
Special Edition) and the song "Love Load" off of the Infinity EP. It took months
of work and Devin is extremely proud of it but knows that it will not appeal to
all."
