Mortiis?!

I bought his second album out of curiosity (and the cover art was cool) and it was terrible. A 10 year old could have made it.

I haven't heard any of his new stuff though.

Mortiis best albums are The Stargate and The Crypt of the Wizard. When Mortiis sold out I was dissapointed, I think he should still continued the ambient music. The smell of Rain was ok for an industrial album, but I prefer the old Mortiis style.

The early albums are good, but there are alot better dark ambient out there.
Ånden som Gjorde Opprør is his best work.

Sometimes in the store I look for Født Til Å Herske, mainly since I like the cover. But besides that, no thanks.

The Stargate is probably his better release, the ambient stuff is below average even from a metal-guys-making-ambient point of view. The Smell Of Rain is nicer, kind of stripped down but The Grudge is poppy enough to do permanent damage if you aren't prepared. Anyone seen the video? I'm sure it's suitably ridiculous...

I don't think The Smell of Rain or The Grudge are that bad. TSoR even has some endearing qualities. Some of the songs deliver on a rather basic emotional level more than many metal songs do. And it's enough of a change of pace to be interesting. The Grudge had moments that would fall into the "fun" category, but it was not an album with a whole lot of staying power. I wouldn't say it sucked though.

I used to have Mortiis stuff, not anymore. I do recommend Stargate though, as it's a fantastic album. The Grudge is alright, but nothing special. His ambient stuff was good, i'd prefer it over his new style (even though I do like the style that he plays, I just wasn't fond what did with it).
