Various songs and the majority of their back catalogue are all based on the theme of murder, depravity and mutilation, fronted by Wednesday 13 but what can this mean could it be the return of everyones favourite horror-fixated psychos the Murderdolls with their new album Women and Children Last
The new line up is Wednesday 13 (Lead Vocals) Joey Jordison (Lead Guitar), Roman Surman (Rhythm Guitar), Jack Tankersley (Bass), Racci Shay (Drums/Percussion). The latter members being the new recruits to join and in doing so the band have accomplished a unique album.
In recent interviews Joey Jordison admitted that the first Murderdolls album wasnt really written by himself and Wednesday as a band, but more of a collection of tracks that were hap hazardly chucked together to sound somewhat appealing.
Women and Children Last once again carries on down the dark theme stylings of murder, depravity revenge and blood throughout whilst even touching upon suicide in the deceptively happy and upbeat Summertime Suicide.. On this album clearly the song-writing is better than their previous albums. The band themselves have also tightened up their sound and made it heavier. Despite Wednesday 13 sounding like an Alice Cooper tribute act (its the only downside to this band), it actually does the album some justice, upon creating this almost new sound without taking away the mystique and creativity of the Murderdolls
Women and Children Last is far from the perfect album, but then Murderdolls are far from the perfect band. Any long time fans of the band could well be disappointed that the Murderdolls have changed their lyrical direction, but in my honest opinion it is for the better and works really well.
4/5
