I recently got my hands on Music For Speeding, the brand new Marty Friedman album. It is very good, and anyone that likes Marty Friedman will like this album. Although here again Marty shows us that he definitely rules at melodies, he does not so much at riffs... What are your thoughts?

I got it and listened to it twice...and probably won't listen to it too many more times in the near future. Its not that its bad but i find it a bit uninspired and a bit too much in middle ground. I really liked 'Dragon's Kiss' and 'Scenes' and the instrumentals on 'True Obsessions' were excellent....but these songs/pieces don't take me anywhere.
It would be cool if someone like Paul Gilbert would help him out doing another Cacophony album.

Yeah, the album is based on composition not shred, which I tend to prefer.

Excelent album if you're looking for that kind of stuff, if you're looking for a technical (or any for that matter) textbook, forget it - there are plenty of that kind of albums around anyway!

The rhythms on that album are least to say excellent, I don't understand why you wouldn't like them. :err:

That's "It's the unreal thing". Good song.
And Zax, to know what I mean take for example the main riff from Cheer Girl Rampage. It's almost childish. Although this is an extreme example, it shows the point.

I can't stand it myself. Composition side is very poor IMHO.
I just purchased a cd by David Valdes and it has good compostion and melody.
Also on the plus side it has shredding mixed in and unlike someone like Malmsteen this fellow can slow it down as well.

CGR is MEANT to be childish, Friedman WANTED it to sound videogamey and it's one of the best tracks on the album. You may want to listen to it again, that isn't an album that gets you at the first listen (on my first listen, for that matter, I thought it was pretty average).
