If you're a fan of the Allman Bros. music and you happen to be in the Valley this evening - tonight's your chance to check out a wonderful band that do it right - they even have 2 drummers! And the singer, my dear friend Mike, not only has the sound & plays B3 but also happens to look a lot like Gregg Allman! They're called Southbound and they're playing at a cool little blues venue:

Cozy's
14058 Ventura Blvd
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
818-986-6000
2 shows - starting at 9pm
$5 Cover

How is this MaidenS related you may be wondering? Well, my husband, Lynn, is the bassist! :D If you're a fan of the bottom end you should definitely check him out - he's a really great bass player. :worship: Of course I'm a little prejudiced - but not much!! :p Come see/hear for yourself if you can! I'll be there - a'hootin' and a'hollerin! :kickass:

Ok, that makes sense. My first thought about the Allman Brothers was "great groovin bass lines".. Great fit for your husband to be the bassist in this band..

Wish I would have known about this sooner ~ I would have loved to see and hear Lynn do his thing but I already have plans this evening. :( I heard his playing on your solo CD ~ impressive.
Please keep us posted next time he has a gig! :)

Well, I'm always glad to hear about good music events, so keep posting about them. Though I'm just reading it as it's likely going on. Not to mention LA is a bit far for me tonite. If they play in SD (if I'm still around), do plug them here again, preferably with a few days notice.
Have a great time!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everybody! Yes I was a little late on posting this - since we had a last minute rehearsal schedule change that allowed me to go to the show the thought occurred to me that maybe some of you guys would like to come, too! It was a good show and they had a very good turn out for a school night so it looks like they'll be back at Cozy's again in the future. Maybe next time! :)

( Hi Nancy! It's been a little while! Hope life is good for you! )

Yep, Lynn can play flashy stuff. Aja told me he got high praise from Bruce Conte on his ability to play Tower of Power stuff which is far from simple. Rocco Prestia is quite the legend.

If y'all haven't heard Lynn on Aja's solo stuff, do check it out. His bass lines fit the song perfectly. :headbang: :kickass: That is the mark of a great bassist.

the band is pretty new and not doing much traveling but if they ever come up north, momadave I'll let you know.

Ya, Bruce is not the type to throw compliments around and was more than a little surprised that Lynn had the harmonic sensibilities of Jaco ( who is a huge influence on him) and that he played Rocco's parts on the TOP stuff note for note, exactly like the record. Even the regular bassist he uses ( who actually played with Tower) doesn't do it that way. I gave him a new nickname that night - Rocco Pastorious!
And TY very much Linda, Jim, Jenna and Wanda - your kind words are appreciated. I'm very proud of him. :)

 Gotta have a little fun with things - I can't be serious all the time!
