I didn't know where else to put this, really detailed and excellent graph showing how many plays/ sales are needed to meet minimum monthly wage and the division of that money:

It's for 2010, they're workin on 2013 if you scroll to the bottom. Wish they'd have included touring and shows too, merch and shit. Kinda interesting to contemplate what combination of artists' distribution would generate the most income.
 
I'm sure the 2013 figure will be even more stifling, but the Spotify number seems pretty accurate (4,549,020 plays per month required to match minimum wage). We get about 200-500 plays on there a month and I usually only get payments of about $0.05 at a time.

iTunes radio pays better.
 
Truth be told anyone who's hoping to live purely off plays/sales is delusional, but damn didn't think that many would be required. I think with the evolution of and increasing popularity of streaming everyone should see a bigger payout in the future. Somebody with the time and money is gonna end up fighting for rights.
