Mustasch on Swedish TV

That was an awesome 30 minute show, it sent chills up my curved spine. You bet your sweet Biffy I will be down front for this. Duhhhhh I am their sponsor so you bet I will be there, and thanks to Glenn for the chance to be said sponsor.

Hey Glenn... what made you pick these guys (other than Volbeat dropping)? Obviously, they're a relatively unknown commodity here in the states. Just curious what factors, other than need for a band, drove their selection. Thanks.

See while these guys are a major drift from what the prog power genre's are for me just like Freak Kitchen they fit the mold and its obvious from just watching a few minutes of that video that they will more than hold there own on the PPUSA stage....I am very excited to see them ripp it up!!

When Volbeat dropped, I decided 100% that I wanted to stay in the "oddball" category. I was crushed because I wanted to stay relatively heavy and catchy. I needed a band that appealed a little to everyone as opposed to a lot to a few. In other words, I wanted the "fun" to remain in the slot as that was how I built the roster orginally. I honestly didn't think I had a chance in hell of booking someone remotely like that. I was going to throw everyone a curve and go the AoR route. However, there was only so much bitching & controversy that I could take within a short amount of time. I looked at thrash, beauty & beast, and even doom. I still wasn't happy with my options not because of the available talent, but for what I wanted in that slot. I'll be honest and say that name recognition did not play a factor at all into my decision based on the strength of ticket sales. I was going to do it my way and stand or fall.

That same day I recieved an email from my old friend Thor from Iceland asking me if I had considered Mustasch & seen the "'Double Nature" video. He even said they would be as close to Volbeat as I was going to get. I knew of Mustasch from the press releases regarding their winning of the Swedish Grammy Award (they beat Candlemass, Arch Enemy, Clawfinger, & Entombed). However, I hadn't paid that close attention.

I watched the video and was hooked instantly. Their sound was exactly what I wanted. It also helped that they had a huge Cult vibe going on (and I love The Cult).

However, they still had to pass the ultimate final test:

"Hey Cindy, check this video out."

"I like 'em."

"Then I'm booking them."

Thus ends the story.

Glenn... thanks for the detailed response. And for what it's worth, I think you did an great job replacing Volbeat. From the perspective of style, they were clearly the most difficult band on this roster to replace.

I think people take for granted the quality and quantity of information you provide to this forum. After going to Wacken last year, going to Sweden Rock this year, and having seriously considered both this year's Metal Camp and the last two CPFs, it's simply amazing how frustrating it can get trying to get information on a festival. Thanks again.

+1 I have made this comment several times on this forum as well.

Does that mean adult-oriented rock? If so... Thor, I thank you from the bottom of my cold, black heart.

Bands like Wig Wam make me want to cry for the future of humanity.

On better news, Mustache seems really cool. Awesome job Glenn. You almost never let the fans down when it comes to a replacement.

I'm still sad about Volbeat, but there's always next year. What better band to play the 10th anniversary show?

AOR means Album Oriented Radio.

I totally understand and respect where you're coming from on this band, Glenn. We all know that you love to have at least 1 oddball act at every PPUSA, and I'm OK with that.

I thought it meant Album Oriented Radio meaning radio stations that play album cuts and not just the singles. Classic rock stations especially seem to fall into this category.

That was the original meaning, but it seems to have morphed into a genre meaning middle of the road hard rock/pop rock. At least that's the way I see that term being used most of the time anymore.

sorry about that glenn.

the footage is great. if they play like this at PP, they're going to bring down the roof. great pick.
