I haven't played in a band in probably 15 years.
A lot of the metal bands I record are very technical and I really like mixing stuff that is more mid tempo and simpler so I decided today to try and get a band together and put this track down as a first attempt.

All programmed drums and DI+impulse for the guitars at the moment.
I would, of course, get a proper band together to track this but will try to get an album or at least an EP worth of songs together first then look for a band and vocalist.

What do you think of the track?

Oh shit this is so damn cool. Exactly the kind of stuff that matters for me, I hope you will be able to continue this project! Please aim for a full album haha! And keep us updated.

It's a nice song, indeed reminds me of the good days with the bands you named. Old school for the win. Yep, I'm getting old too...

Nice sounding mix so far too!

Thanks for sharing! The second track has the Bolt Thrower vibe going on from the start with the fade in haha. Well it's still not a straight copy of the bands you mentioned, which is cool. I wanted to give the first track another spin too but it seems to be gone, I should have downloaded it.

The guitar sound is fat, I always wonder how you get this done. It's still crunchy and still "high" sounding but not harsh at all. It's got this kind of presence which I like alot. Wide sounding, but still leaves the mix very open. Yeah I'm being honest, I'm fishing for details a little bit hehe... Some previous input on my own mixing threads have already been very helpful though. If at some point you could make a mixing thread for one of your songs, that'd be awesome too. I rather play around and mix this than most of this more modern stuff which usually shows up (with all respect to those, though).

Anyways, with the right vocals this can be a killer project. I'd buy this if a full album is done, which seems possible if you can continue writing at this rate.

Fixed the link for first song.
Deleted it by accident.
Guitar eq is a hi and lo pass, cut for low mid honk then a deep narrow cut for piercing high and a shelf against the cut.
At the moment the guitars are just DI to ts808>lecto to lecab with my 57/201 IR. Download IR https://copy.com/p4G6NI4Bvik8QKLV

Thanks for the reply Mickrich. My post processing is not really a problem I think (it's kinda the same but usually no boosts). I suppose I have to work harder getting a good mic position or something. Thanks for the impulses though, I picked them up, they're great (as proven in the mix).

Thanks! Yeah I've already been playing with that. It was a great topic though. Usually I get about the same results as with normal micing with a guitar signal (I pick a ringing chord and put it on repeat). I think I have to work harder. :D

Never boosted my hi-mids on EQ with guitars. Works pretty good for you though :D

My pic above is for illustrative purposes.
I do the hi and lo pass with sonnox eq then the 2 cuts and high shelf with the analog eq on my zed-r16.
The Zed's eq lets you high shelf without harshness you can get from digital eq.
Boosting a shelf against a parametric cut lets you get rid of offending high mid frequencies without dulling the sound.
Watch the master, George Massenburg demonstrating this.
