i have a big indecision on 2 used amplifiers i have tested days ago
is the peavey jsx 1 and a engl powerball first series
must admit i like very much the jsx but for the same price (750 euros) i have also a fourth channel on the engl...

any feedback and suggestion for my next buying... :hotjump:

Why not the powerball? Dark Tranquility used it for their rhythm sound on their latest album and it sounds fucking huge!

The powerball seems to have some wierd artifacts in it's sound. Live it doesn't cut as well as a lot of other amps out there either, just seems a bit lost and lifeless. I think ENGL even released revised editions of the 'balls' to try and sort that out.

Powerball is great i think, i own it, i really like it. you can just change one tube on the pre to get it tighter and punchier

Yeah my experience with the powerball was not very pleasant either, pretty difficult amp to work with and it doesn't really sound that great compared to a lot of other amps in the same price range.

dont know.. i feel that belonging to this forum come with some "powerball hate syndrome".
i am in no way an amp expert, i played some amps in my life but not too much, i tried the mark 5, recto, fireball, 6505, some other stuff, i like the powerball the best, screw that :)

It couldn't possibly be the shitloads of examples where the PBall sounds like total garbage in final mixes, or live shows. Nah, couldn't be. :p

The hate isn't just random and for no reason. Show me one solid PBall tone in a production and I'll show you 1,000 with a 5150 that own it. Proof is in the pudding, as they say.
