My HP PC(Piece of Crap) really sucks, I have tried everything, it just sucks. We have a Dell in the other office, and that sucker screams, and it has a slower cpu , and less ram than this one, so the jest of the matter, I am going to get a new one, so my problem is which one do i replace it with, i have it narrowed down to 2:

Alienware - Area51-750i with everything

iMAC -

So any thoughts.

Well, you'd be going with two completely different operating systems so it depends what you're looking for there. Are you familiar with Apple OS? Are you sure that what you want to use the computer for will be completely compatible? Are you going to be doing any gaming on this?
The Alienware PC seems a bit overkill. And personally, I can't stand all the lights on towers. They're annoying and a complete waste of electricity. The IMac is a nice all in one but you'll be dealing with a completely new OS. Of course, that's sort of the same deal with Win 7 coming (you'll get the free upgrade if you buy a Win computer now) but unlike Vista, I like 7 thus far.

My advice to you would be to check out a site like http://slickdeals.net/ and wait for a deal. There's usually a new Dell one every week and sometimes some other places like Newegg and what not have some good sales. If you're not planning on gaming, you should be able to find a very capable PC for your needs.

You need to go Apple. Have been working with macs for 18 years and they NEVER fail.

They fail.

Nothing really wrong with an HP. Not sure what your issue is. Guessing you've reformatted?

What you get depends on what you want to use it for. Once you know that the answer is fairly easy.

That's what I have heard, and Lance uses Apple exclusively, but then again the alienware has a solid reputation also.

I am really leaning toward the Apple, Plus I am not a gamer, and I have used the Apple OS before and had no problems.

John, I fix stuff like this for a living. If you're not looking to replace it, PM me or e-mail me jwillcoxon aht geee-mail doht com,
(thats gmail.com...lol) let me know what the symptoms are, and I'll give you some ideas, hopefully.

Unless you're a gamer, the Alienware PC is prbably overkill.
Not a Mac fan, but it depends on what you'll be using it for.

Alienware was bought out by Dell. Stay far far away from them - you have to buy a really souped up machine to get support that's worth it, and they're infamous for proprietary parts. I hate running technical support on them, because they always have to do things a little differently from everyone else, and not necessarily in a good way.

If you're not going for gaming, you can buy a retail tower for $360+ with a dual core processor, 3gb RAM, and 320+gb hard drive space, and as Jibrille mentioned, there's the free upgrade to Windows 7 (although I think that offer ends in two or three weeks). They're so stupidly cheap that it's not even worth building your own unless you have really specific needs.

if you want to actually get work done, go with apple. if you want to dick around and get a virus every 2 minutes, go with a PC

I've used PCs since 1994 and have had zero viruses in that entire time. Use an adequate firewall, don't open shit from people you don't know, and don't go to skeezy porn/warez sites, and that's 90% of your battle right there.

If your PC is acting up and it once ran really fast - I suggest you install the trial version of System Mechanic 9 and run the cleanup programs on there. The registry cleaner is good as well as the hard drive cleanup program.

Also, your PC may have been infected with malware of some sort. Most PCs that run Windoze get that after a while. I highly suggest you use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's free for home use.

And finally, just adding another GB of RAM usually speeds up a computer. Spending $20 to $40 for 1 GB of RAM really does help. Try Newegg for some great deals.

Thanks for all the advise guys and gals. Malware is not the problem, that has been addressed already, and neither is the Ram(8Gb installed), check internet connection, checked hard-drive. It's just a slow ass PC. I think I am going apple, as I am not a gamer.

8GB? Why would you do a thing like that. A waste of cash. Windows Vista only will work with 3 of them. I forget how many Windows 7 will use....

Though it could be the ram still, if any of it was bad. It could also be a cluttered hard drive, too many processes running on windows (e.g. go to run, type in msconfig and see what is all being loaded at startup). Lots of things can cause slowness though. If the computer has decent specs, then its likely fixable.

It depends on whether you have the 32bit or 64 bit editions. XP stops at 3 normally but will do 4 if you get the right updates. Vista 32 stops at 4 but 64 will do 8, and I believe the same will be true of Windows 7. (they're capable of supporting much much higher amounts than that, but under rather specific circumstances.) Apparently 7 is also being designed to work at 1gb, meaning the XP netbooks can be upgraded.

We run Vista 64 bit, plus the system came with 8Gb at no extra charge, so how am I too complain

There's no way this system should be running slow. Back up your info and re-install windows. No reason to blow $2000 on a Mac (Mac's are always about 4x as expensive as a PC) if all it is is software clogging.

for your situation id say get an Apple, but if you want to go Windows, highly recommend just getting parts and building it, it's quite expensive...especially Alienware
