Name albums that are badly dated

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell - Classic Pantera, but also pretty shitty sounding Pantera, so fucking scooped, scooped to shit!
Slayer - Reign In Blood - some really cool songs but I think the album sounds like shit

But the the Life Is Peachy Korn album still sounds clear and heavy, even if no one likes nu-metal anymore, it did start up metal again! but all nu-metal has that late 90s sound to it, so I suppose in this thread it counts as being dated :D

whaaat?!? You have to remember that it's 24 years old! The sound must have been a nuclear bomb as the album came out. It still kicks me in the nuts every time I hear it!

Yeah, but that was 24 years ago... I love the album, its on of my favorite thrash albums, but when you compare it to something like Machine Head's The Blackening album, you really hear how much better things have got. Though Reign In Blood does have that signature old skool thrash sound :D

Yah, but muckypup with that mentality everything that was ever recorded before slate samples sounds "dated".

Of course the productions are dated....but some of the musci is timeless and that's what should count.

Judas Priest - Nostradamus. I really don't know how they were able to do it. It doesn't sound dated in a cool, classic way. Just POS dated.

I have to say that I just think the question is flawed from the get go. Everything is relative and what sounds great now will sound dated in short order - it's just the way things are.

Dated does not necessarily mean bad - quite frankly most of my favorite albums would sound dated by most standards, but none the less they are my favorites. Old does not equal Bad and New does not equal Good in many cases.

Perhaps I'm getting old, but I miss the days of dynamics in recordings - a difference between the softest passages and the loudest. Perhaps that is the thing that makes things sound dated, but regardless, it's all still relative.

I would say the same that dated doesn't mean bad.It just means that it shows it age when listening to it.

I never liked threads like this, it's just inevitably gonna be youngins hating on old productions, and old people hating on the comparative homogeneity of new ones, and then thefyn will come in and post like the dirtiest crustiest thrash ever recorded to "prove" how much better it is than contemporary stuff, and on and on :loco:
