Who listens to some of Necro/Ill Bill/Goretex/Sabac??

Death Rap!!

Discuss.

I've never heard those artists, are they actually any good? Gravediggaz are probably the closest thing I like to this stuff, but I generally steer clear of "death rap" because it reeks of cheap gimmickry.

I dunno about gimmickry. Kinda seems to me like they're people who would rather play metal but they're better at making rap so they do that. It definetly feels legitimate to me. I think there's probably as much of a market for techincal black polka as there is for death rap. Could be wrong.

Anyway I only know Necro, save for contributions on his stuff. I think he's pretty awesome. I think the amount of metal in his stuff is overstated though since there is barely any.

On some songs, he has guests like Scott Ian, Steve DiGiorgio, Away, Jamey Jasta, you know. I guess it's mostly rap, since he's from the projects in Brooklyn, but he has elements of metal. But I think it's rapcore, his lyrics are pretty brutal.

Yeah he has guests like that but they're playing some pretty non-metal music a lot of the time. Even sometimes when there is a very metal bit of music it ends up sounding like a sample, not the way it would sound on any metal album. I mean... people call Eminem rapcore. But musically I think it's all straight rap. They might express some uncommon lyrics for usual rap but to me it's all fair game for rap as a style of music. Like the band Body Count I would consider to be metal, because their music is totally metal even though their vocals and lyrics are extremely outside of usual metal styles.

I do believe, however, that those guys have had some metal bands in the past. Anyone ever heard that stuff? I don't doubt that they've done metal before but I think the death rap music has a metal kitsch rather than a real metal element to it. But I could be coming from a biased angle, since I've heard a lot more metal than rap. But it's not like I haven't heard very much rap.

I tried listening to some of this "Death Rap" once and found it to be awful and not much different from regular rap. Only group I like that could possibly be classified as this is the Italian group Truceklan.
