I spoke to the guys last year (christmas time) and they said that the record was nearly written and that this year would be used for recording.
haven't they said the same thing like 2 years ago?
i remember an interview in 2008 saying that they'll use the upcoming 2009 USA tour and the europe festivals to promote their new album (meaning that it'll be out by then).
then in 2009, they played the USA tour, and then canceled the euro shows (e.g. summer breeze festival) to *record* their new album!
besides, i've been told from a very reliable source that they spent most of the studio time for the last album to track stuff....there's hardly any riff that's actually played all the way through, often it's a measure by one!
i'm in no way taking away of the greatness that is necrophagist...especially epitaph is kicking my ass HARD.
still, i definitely think that perfection does indeed stand in their way.
my thoughts go somewhere along the lines of this: they write songs, which are undoubtably great, then there's another recent release of high caliber tech death bands such as obscura for example, and they go like "we got to top that!". after all, there's a lot of fame involved, and they really have a name to loose if the new album doesn't kick everythings ass as their last two records did.
