Necrophagist's Marco Minnemann

Yeah it's called triggers, less effort more sound.

neg. if you don't want to cheat your fans out of a good performance, you still use full force on the bass drums as if you weren't triggered because they still can feel the vibrations from the bass drum head itself reverberating through the room. triggers help for maintaining the same volume and clarity on every kick, which is especially useful for death/black metal bands with two bass drums.

it's difficult to get two bass drums tuned exactly the same, plus if you play 260bpm 16ths it'll sound like ass over the pa if you're not triggered.

in conclusion, don't talk if you have no clue what the fuck you're talking about.

I'm still yet to understand how you 'cheat' in music.
It really doesn't matter what effects or equipment you're using... Just as long as it sounds good.

Triggers really don't turn a shit drummer into an amazing drummer like some people try and make out.

This is what I was trying to say. I was trying to answer Fluxcored question, by saying that with triggers you can use less effort and get the SAME sound as if you were hitting a bass drum hard without triggers.

I didn't think my comment would ruffle and feathers.

DinoB, you make a great point: Necrophagist can use triggers, metronomes, digital editing equipment, and whatever else they want to "cheat" and they'll still be boring as fuck.

if that comment about cheating was to me, I didn't mean cheating in the way of "omg he's only tapping the pedal but he's getting 65950 hits!!!!!" cheating haha. I mean that, for example, if you went to see Mayhem. Hellhammer used to trigger his whole kit, iirc. If he played the bass drums with minimal effort, ie not hitting them as hard as you know he can for a full set and/or screwing up because of this, you'd probably feel cheated out of a good performance because he was taking the easy way out.

and DinoB: that's still wrong. you still have to put effort into hitting the kick pedal to even trigger a sample. sometimes samples don't even match the acoustic drum sound at all. your point is moot because triggers don't automatically make you sound faster or cleaner - in fact it's quite the opposite. if you start flamming up, the entire crowd will notice it - from in front of the stage to the person standing outside the doors of the venue. because triggers have the same volume and clarity for each hit, it's a lot easier for someone to know if you're not putting effort into it or you're screweing up. thus, it takes MORE effort to play clean with triggers.

Crap, I thought this thread was confirmation of a new album. :(

Why do they only drop an album every 5 years? These guys are worse than Tool and new Metallica when it comes to recording new stuff.

because muhammad wants to make sure that his trite, weedly-wah over-technical playing is as flashy as possible, ensuring that he can show off his sweeping skills 65 times in a "song".

Marco Minnemann is into metal? didn't know that!
He always is impressive but for some reason I don't like him. I can't connect with his "feeling"
Plus he plays too busy sometimes and I can't get it.

Is anyone going to talk about the damn video?

The hi-hat shit he does is AWESOME!
The things that he does on the video are just peace of cake for him, he can do more complex and impressive stuff but still doesn't touch me.
Have some of his solo stuff and I find it boring.

Ok how about this, I totally agree with you in this comment, I know about triggers even though you may not think so. All I was trying to say in my original comment is what you said, "because triggers have the same volume and clarity for each hit," and in the video he wasn't hitting extremely hard on the pedals and he was getting a great sound from the triggers.

You are correct and I'm not trying to argue with you at all. I just didn't make my statement clearr. And I know that triggers aren't cheating in any way.
