need help with a couple of sweeps

I've been playing for a little over a year and would do anything to nail yngwie, bodom and necrophagist sweeps but i can't even play them well enough slowly!

the following sweeps are giving me trouble - and none of the other guitar forums are of much help ...

I've tabbed everything in Eb as i've been trying to learn som yngwie

and the whole intro to red light in my eyes pt2 by bodom! I'm so retarded when it comes to sweeps!

any tips, tricks , help with any of these?

Hey,

I'll give what I can ta help ya out. The two tips I can give you are 1: make sure you work out the best fingerings for you and your technique before you try and speed 'em up and 2: make sure you have the pick at the correct angle for sweeping.

If you're not using a metronome, get one!

Buy a few Michael Angelo Batio instructional D.V.D.'s.

Can you sweep at all?

If not, you need to work on sweeping mechanics first.

Play that, quarter notes at 80bpm, until you play it flawlessly 100 times in a row. Then move up to 100bpm, and do the same thing. Keep moving up. Once you hit 200bpm your fingers are probably used to the sweep motion, so you have to start watching your right hand technique

It's called a 'sweep pick' because you literally have to sweep your finger. Don't pick each individual string, instead, just sweep the pick evenly. Try this exercise:

Make sure you're playing very even rakes. Start slow, quarter/8th notes at 160 or so. Then move the speed up. Once you have even rakes going at about the same speed you can finger the sweeps, you should be good. Work on coordinating it.

It took me 6 months to get sweeping 16th notes at 120. It took me two months after that to get sweeping 16th notes at 250. Just work at it and it'll come to you!

i didn't really understand your problem... u can't do it slowly? u mean u dunno what fingers to use?

try smaller sweeps first, the first song i used sweep picking was "let the hammer fall" there is a small and simple sweep in that solo. do it slowly
