Now that Blockbuster has entered into the online movie rental business, I was wondering who I should go with for my movie renting needs (the local rental store sucks where I live).

Blockbuster is $14.99/month

Netflix is 17.99/month

The choice would seem simple, but I hate Blockbuster's "bandwagon" stance on this issue, and Netflix has a proven track record.

Feel free to recommend somebody else, if you know of a better company.

Netflix totally rocks. They have an awesome selection of all kinds of stuff, the queue system and website kickass, they aren't hardasses if shit gets lost in the mail on occasion (happened twice over the past year or so, no penalties or fees), yadda yadda yadda. But the best part is that it's free for me, since I just wheeze off my mom's account. :headbang:

Netflix, no doubt. Selection rocks and unedited stuff. Blockbuster is notorious not to carry anyhting above R ... so no NC-17 or Unrated stuff.

Also Netflix has regional shipping centers all over the US, so you get a much faster turnaround time.

I get an average of 20 movies a month from them.

STORE RENTAL this is about $90-$100 ... NETFLIX = $17.99

i considered blockbuster, but after comparing my current netflix list to blockbuster's selection, blockbuster only had a few out of the 50 or so things that were in my queue at the time

so netflix may cost more, but better selection

NUTS TO BLOCKBUSTER

Yeah, fuck Blockbuster simply because they don't go into NC-17 territory. Did you know that the only version of The Exorcist you can get at Blockbuster is the R-rated version? And that film is deemed a classic these days...

NetFlix also have foreign movies without the d-grade overdubbing either. Subtitles people, subtitles with original acting.

hey ... you netflix renters ... they have a "friends" program where we can recommned eachoter flicks after we watch them ... or do we have the Movies thread for that? :D

Netflix definitely has the quantity and good service, so its worth the few extra dollars. Here at my house, we use Blockbuster... it's good to us, but I occasionally notice that they don't have some films I'm looking for. But then again, I like weird fucking movies. Either service is fine.

I just PM'd my email address to you for Netflix. Hook me up with some good recommendations. I never check the Movies thread because most people just talk about the popular stuff there.

Where do you get info on all the movies you see? How do you know what to get?

Cool .. sent you my email also.
I went to film school ten years ago, so films are more in my blood than music really.

I just watch anything that sounds interesting. Like a lot of foregin films, dramas .. anything really. Then if I see something new and interesting with a good actor sometimes I just rent other movies with him/her. There is a good cross reference section in Netflix with actors names.

Tip ... if you want new releases, check this page:
http://www.netflix.com/AllNewReleases

It is updated Sunday's with all the new movies released the following Tuesday.
