the best way to get into metal stuff is through old bands: old Metallica, Testament, Kreator, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Exodus, et cetera...

Heed her advice. Start with the classics like:
(Ozzy era) Black Sabbath
(76-84) Judas Priest
(80's) Iron Maiden
(80's) Metallica
(Lombardo era) Slayer
(80's) Mercyful Fate

Get the classics by these bands and then go from there.

Welcome to um !

I second that. Once you know the old sound its up to you do decide what kind of metal fits for you by checking out bands. When I listened to brutal vocs for the first time I was shocked and now opeth and DT are 2 of my favorite bands.

ta, iv been listening to mostly slayer, and cradle of filth, and a little cannable corpse, and lovin it, just wasnt sure wot else i may like...but now i have some ideas, thanks

Best albums by those groups:
Slayer- Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, Live: Decade of Aggression, Divine Intervention.

Cradle of Filth- The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, V Empire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein, Dusk... and Her Embrace, Cruelty and the Beast.

Cannibal Corpse- Tomb of the Mutilated, The Bleeding, Vile.

seems like you would like Thrash, very melodic Black metal and Death metal... so ill recommend bands in those categories:

Thrash:

Sacred Reich
Exodus
Nuclear Assault
D.R.I. (Crossover album to Thrash Zone album)
Slayer (everything up to Seasons/Abyss and probably Divine Intervention)
Death Angel
Megadeth (Peace Sells and R.I.P)
Metallica (Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.. perhaps And Justice for ALL and Black album as well though im not a big fan of those 2)
Heathen
Whiplash
Vio-lence
Forbidden
Dark Angel

Melodic Black Metal:

Cradle of Filth (though its debatable to call them this)
Emperor (only the first two albums.. Nightside and Anthems)
Dimmu Borgir

Death Metal:

Cannibal Corpse
Morbid Angel
Death
Behemoth
Deicide
Obituary

Classic Metal:

Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
AC/DC

Just a short list of bands from each genre... if you want some others just let us know....
