Take the operatic style female vocals and ethereal nature of Nightwish, add the dark symphonic feel and heaviness of Adagio, and throw in some death metal vocals too. Check out the samples on their website, but even these short clips I feel do not really do them justice. Highly reccomended for fans of symphonic metal, and only their first album!

Dayum! I hope I can find this stuff in the record stores! Awes! I like melodic metal with female vocals a LOT, but its so hard to find quality bands like this, or for me at least. Thanks for the info dude! Have any of you guys heard of Rain Fell Within? They're also a melodic metal band with an incredible female vocalist and good music. Unfortunately, they broke up. They were from the States too, so they played some shows around here that I actually could've went to, but unfortunately I didn't know of them when they were around here.

I saw them live in our little town, on a free festival, not even as the headliner (they're a dutch band). Epica was funded by Mark Jansen (Ex-After Forever). Anyway, what's so special about them? I can't remember hearing hearing much awesomeness.. I thought they were just standard gothic metal without solo's?

Well I love this band because of the singing. She truly has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard so that is why I think they are great. Music aint too shabby either.
If I want solos I will listen to one of my many shredder cds in the metal and fusion world.

I know this band for quite a long time. The name Epica came from the last album of Kamelot, called Epica (duh).

I've seen them once or twice, I'm not sure. Can't remember if they went to Fields of Rock or not.

This guy I know contacts them once in a while and use their keyboard player for their own music.

I finally decided to give it a try after all these glowing comments...and.....sorry to say I didnt like it. Of course only being able to judge by the few samples, I thought the music was jarring and all over the place, too maniacal, the death vocals seemed to have no purpose that I could see yet, and the opera voice.. well, its just an opera voice.. any girl can learn to sing like that, so nothing special whatsoever for me there. Just because the girl is pretty, doesnt make me want to run out and buy the album.

yeah, im not buyin the album. i just like the facade of reality clip on their site. thats not enough to waste $15 on, when the new Sonata Arctica cd and plenty of other good cds are coming out soon. since i see from NGC that they dont do any solos or anything, then ... just no.

The only instrument that they seem put to good use is the keyboard. The rest is just bland. There's no energy behind the music. blah all over the place...
