With Sean Malone!!!

I'm really hoping that there is some more of their older demo/Focus style in the music.

That cover is all kinds of awesome, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it suggests that it might be a bit more metal than TIA

Still no where near as good as anything from their first period of activity.

It is very good, just totally different from what's out there, and really difficult to get into.
They are never playing death metal again, that's for sure.

It's not that hard to get into, it's just nothing particularly good.
I feel they lose a lot of the dynamic that made them so special by ditching all of the thrash/death metal influences.

Also, I do think I prefer this to most of the stuff on TIA.

I think Sean is kicking ass as usual, but they're treading into a proggy post-rock territory and that makes me think the same as you, they're abandoning the DM roots altogether. Based on this one song, at least. Still good and I'll buy anything Paul and Sean make, but this might as well be a heavier Aeon Spoke. I also miss the Digitech Vocalist II they used to use for the robot vox.

True.
Needs more gay robots and heavier catchy bits, otherwise what's the point in doing Cynic again, if it's not going to sound anything like Cynic did?
I thought that's why they did Portal?
