New Devin

Awesome! parts of it remind me of Infinity, for example Baby Song. Vampira is fucking cool, too. it's a very epic album, I think, and totally different to Accelerated Evolution, less accessible. I don't know yet which one I like better...

Yea its much different then anything hes done, its much happier but it still has that epicness of terria and ocean machine, although i still like those two albums better.

I have yet to hear it. I keep forgetting to pick it up. I hope it's better than Accelerated Evolution. That wasn't *bad* but it didn't strike me as much as his previous albums did, and I really hate that last emo'ish track on it.

love it. Vampira, Pixillate, Judgement, Notes From Africa all killer tracks, but the album as a whole is just great.

I've got it yesterday so I listened to it just once, and this album is so full of sounds that it's not enough. But I think it's really great, closer to 'Terria' than 'Accelerated Evolution". And the cover is AWESOME!

dont understand the devin townsend love. almost everything he is associated with is terrible, with the exception of a few albums where he was the producer (i think).

I agree.

Name another artist that sounds like him.

He might not sound like others, but it doesn't follow that this makes him any good.

For the record, I agree, what is the attraction with his various projects? It all sounds like over produced bilge to me. I might be missing something though - feel free to educate me.

It's just a matter of taste I suppose. Devin's signature sound that is present in all of his music is the wall-of-sound approach. All of his music is incredibly layered. And I like the genuine emotion in his music. He is bi-polar and it shines through in a lot of his projects. You can hear the mania in his voice almost. Sometimes it might sound angsty but atleast I know it's genuine, you know? I don't know how else to describe the appeal to me. He is an interesting person who makes interesting and unique music and that is why I like him.

It took me a while before I liked his stuff so maybe you should just give it a more thorough listen or something. At first it didn't seem very special to me but after I listened to Oceanmachine - Biomech for a whole day it clicked with me. That's still my favourite album too. It's a little more restrained and introspective than most of his other work.

Shrug.

Thanks for an intelligent reply. I might try out that album.

infinity is the singel best piece of music i have ever heard...the entire album. there are so many layers in every song...listening with headphones is just a treat, to put it plainly. listening to it when youre blazed is a mindtrip...cant even describe it...
