While I was out and about today, the FEDex man brought me a present. My brand spankin new disc by 'While Heaven Wept" title "Vast Oceans Lachrymose" arrived from Amazon. I've listened once through so far and all I can say is for right now, it's in my top albums of the year (did I mention that I like all sorts of metal, but traditional/epic doom (like this, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Thunderstorm) holds a special place for me.
I thought their last disc "Of Empires Forlorn" was a good piece of progressive/epic doom, but they have far surpassed that on this new slab of metal. New singer Rain Irving is proving to be a great addition so that guitarist Tom Phillips can focus on his instrument. This is one varied disc - it is emotional, deep with o' so many layers, heavy, mellow, and just my type of gloomy.
I'm going to put my headphones on and listen to this baby in a darkened room - secluded all by myself, letting the night wind away. My only complaint would be that it could be a bit longer - it's only 6 songs clocking in at about 43 minutes. I could listen to quite a bit more like this.
If you like doom of any sort - give this a listen. It's more progressive feel might help those not normally into epic doom.
