New Heaven and Hell

First listen I was disappointed as it wasn't as instantly pleasing as the new songs that came out on The Dio Years, as I was a great fan of those three tracks. After a few listens however, I think I realised that this is because those tracks are more classic Dio era Sabbath as they are catchier, more Ronnie influenced songs, where as The Devil You Know is somewhat more reminiscent of Ozzy era Sabbath, ie, much doomier. It is kind of a doomier Dehumanizer really. After a few listens, the hooks are starting to surface, and I am enjoying it more. Still need more time with it though.

It's good but it tends to drag for me, to tell the truth. I was never much into Sabbath's really doomy stuff so much as the more rockin' Dio/Martin era material so this kind of misses the mark a little bit for me.

I like the Album , but its takin a while to grow on me. It did'nt grab me straight away by the balls or any where esle for that matter... so far Bible Black, Double the Pain, Fear, The Turn of the Screw are stand outs for me , its no Heaven & Hell for sure but I think later on it will become a classic, it kinda follows from Mob Rules . Not forgetting that Dehumanizer is a bloody great ALBUM IMO ...
footnote Triple J played Bible Black about 1.30 or so on the way to Wagga , with my collegues in the car they inquired do you like this stuff , said shit yeah got it already ...lol

What do you mean later on it will be a classic?
How can you say that when everyone in this thread has had a similar view on it so far.... not that great?
So? That doesn't prove anything. Everyone said St Anger was shit when it first came out and... eh... and... :Smug:

What do you mean later on it will be a classic?

So far the only thing I like about it is the cover.

The cover is great but I know a few people who aren't so thrilled with it, they deem it "extreme metal" in style.

My thoughts on the tunes - the first 3 songs really sound good but I tend to lose interest after that. So tonight I've attacked it from a different angle, listening in groups of 3 or four tracks at once. I'm finding it more appealling on a whole now or maybe its the Grouse scotch.

So people think its doomier like old Sabbath - Yeah, its doomy alright but when I think about what it sounds like I keep aligning it with Dio's solo period. Maybe its because his voice is one of the highlights of the album. I dunno but Breaking into Heaven reminds me of Shame on the Night, Turn of the Screw reminds me of Rock and Roll Children, Bible Black verse reminds me of Stand up & Shout.

New Candlemass might just top this...

Listening to it again today, I heard comparisons to Dio's 90s solo stuff, particularly "Double The Pain" sounding like it could have come from the album Angry Machines (which despite being a weak album, has a great sound IMO). It sounds kind of like a cross between Angry Machines and Dehumanizer, which really, is kind of what you would expect they would have done after Dehumanizer wouldn't you?

Liking it more with more listens, but certainly no classic. Just a solid album. Also good to see they have only added a couple of the stronger songs from it to their setlist, and not half the album.

Still on high rotation on my Work pc and Mp3... tis great...... ooooo DouBLE THE pAIN
I'm listening to it alot too:headbang: its damn heavy:worship: but seriously, people should check out the new Candlemass - death magic doom - I'll drop a clip or two in youtube for the curious.:)
