New Interview

Actually, that interview was meant for the local scene here in San Antonio. I don't know how Blabbermouth picked it up. There are several things mentioned in that interview that I would have worded differently, had I known it was going to be broadcast to the whole world.

But If you guys want to check out a really cool interview, pick up the latest Metal Maniacs magazine (Jan '06 issue). Matt Johnsen and I did most of the interview right after 'Ink Compatible' was released last year, then updated it a few weeks before it went to print.

Cool interview. About Megadeth, I think Mustaine would've not hired you because he doesn't want to look so bad by comparison :) Then again, who knows? It would've been cool to see you get the exposure a big name band like that would provide.

Is that ProgPower '06 going to happen for sure for Watchtower? I may actually have to go out for that one.

That was AWESOME! :) I'll have to pick up that Jan 05 issue of metal maniacs too!

Some things that came to mind....

Who's the new Megadeth guitarist? I know Chris Poland played on the System has Failed and Glen Drover played on tour with them?
Marty Friedman's coming out with another solo album? YESSSS!
Those pictures with Holdsworth were awesome!
I have to check out that Avenge Sevenfold solo...I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Ron, you are a great guitar hero, and i know many of the guys in this forum think the same. Your ideas, licks, progressions, etc, are new proposals in the rock world. We´re with you!!!

On a related note, I was wondering if Ron would like to explain the whole ProgPower thing (it says in the interview that Watchtower is playing there this year, but the promoter has emphatically stated that they are not). Just curious as to what's going on.

A few months ago, I got a call from someone working for/with Glenn at ProgPower USA and he invited WatchTower to play next year's event in September. Not sure how close in contact these guys were, but as it turns out Glenn had pretty much already decided that he wanted an all non-US lineup for the event.

I have stated before that I did not want to gig anymore with WatchTower unless we had another record released. I was somewhat caught in the middle because ProgPower is a really cool event to play, but there was no way that WatchTower would have Mathematics recorded and released by September next year. As a matter of fact, I'm now thinking that Mathematics may never happen.

Crap... Guess I'll start breathing again. Well, maybe you can hook up with Muhammed Suicmez from Necrophagist at some point for something interesting, Ron. Some cross-breeding there may well be the most interesting thing that could happen to progressive metal right now. I'm pretty depressed, otherwise...

Too bad that WatchTower isn't coming back together, but I'm very eagerly looking forward to Machinations of Dementia! I'm guessing MoD is going to be a little less technical than Ink, or are Chris and Alex as technically capable as Pete and Bobby? Anyway, Synaptic Plasticity seems to be one hell of a song!

I also think it's cool you're of a fan of Mudvayne, Slipknot and System of a Down, I really like those bands too, but I wasn't expecting you to like them, since lots of "metalheads" look down on nu-metal. Sad, really.

Actually, Chris had to pass on the project. His schedule writing and recording for the next Lamb Of God CD got to be a bit too much. Working up these Machinations tunes would have required a lot of his free time, and he just doesn't have it right now. Focusing on LOG is his main priority, but we hope to work together at a later time.

We've got someone in mind to take over, but nothing is set.

The music that Alex and I are writing is not as "techy" as Spastic Ink, but is FAR more aggressive, and of course heavier. We've got 15 songs written, 2 to go...
