Hi, Maelstrom readers,

God damn it. It’s been a little while. What started as a month hiatus nearly turned into two, and personal issues and relaxation of direction made me take my sweet time.

But it was worth it. Issue #52 of Maelstrom, which marks our sixth anniversary, contains 100 album reviews, three live reports, and two From the Vault picks.

But the shining highlight of the issue, aside from our latest longevity milestone, must be our interview with Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan, the god amongst gods of metal drums. We’ve got some other pretty great interviews with Novembers Doom, Isole and Vesania, too.

All discussions about politics and religion do is start fights, and change peoples opinions of you. We're not political, so who really cares about my opinion?

I do my talking in the voting booth.

I have plenty opinions and views about both politics and religion, but they are kept separate from Novembers Doom, I prefer to keep them to myself, or I'll just rant about it in a stupid personal blog haha

To be honest, I'm glad you guys answered that one the way that you did. It was veeery mature of you, whereas a lot of people probably wouldn't hesitate to make their political opinions or agendas known. Classy, to say the least. Isn't the topic of stem cell research a bit political though? What with Marty McFly going on commercials advocating it, and the debates upon debates about how it could help? And I bet nobody remembers the politisized death of Christopher Reeve (poor fellow! not even superman can get respect!). But anyway, the Editor said the interview with Novembers Doom was really great and had a nice flow so that it almost didn't seem like it was an email interview - I've got to thank you guys for being so open to make it like that. And congratulations on the new CD! I hope casual Maelstrom readers read the interview with you fellas and decide to pick some up.

The stem cell thing was borderline political I guess. If you read our answers, they're not very decisive one way or the other anyhow, we kept it a bit vague. The only thing I was direct about was the fact that I hate the human race and don't trust anyone anyhow
