Hi, all.
I'd like to discover your opinions on this new song, and relate them to my own.
This song is obviously a far cry from their metalcore roots -- even more so than Ire itself. It is blatantly glam metal. It's like Vice Grip on steroids.
I found myself liking the song on the first listen. I found it catchy. However, on listening further, I heard some of the really cheesy lyrics, especially the chorus: "We fight fire with gasoline" over and over again.
The essence of this song, I think, is superficial. I find myself enjoying it as your average person might enjoy a Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift song.
With my favourite PWD songs, I seem to grow into them, the more I listen to them. Yes, I enjoy them on first listen, but they get even better as I listen further. With Devil's Calling, it's kind of instant gratification, and then "meh".
I've listened to it over 10 times now and I'm already a bit bored. What the main Ire album did well, for me, was balancing the cheesiness with real music. You can't deny songs like Vice Grip and Fractures had pretty cheesy lyrics and gang chants, but I never got sick of them -- there was enough PWD in them to make them into coherent compositions.
Does anyone share this view? If not, let me know, and if so, why.
