New product of the day Event ASP6 $299 each.

I had the older version, the Event PS6s, many years ago. My first monitors. I remember them being very lacking in bass and treble, with kind of a muddy mid range response as well. I was constantly surprised by overhyped bass and treble in my mixes once I got them out of my studio on CD-Rs, in spite of my efforts to not overcompensate.

Perhaps the new Events are better, but I had the PS8s later on and they were basically a bigger version of the same problem.

Your criticisms are pretty inconsistent with most users of ASP8 speakers, Shane. They may be different models in reference. If anything the ASP8s tend to be criticized for being slightly on the hi-fi side, with present and brittle high mids/highs.

What sort of monitors are you used to using?

I find the ASP8's translate very well compared to anything else I've tried in that price range. I love 'em....no ear fatigue either.

Then they must have changed the sound completely, because the PS series was not at all like that.

Like everyone else, I prefer monitors that are flat, accurate and present a full spectrum of sound. I've found my M-Audio BX8as do the job nicely. I also like Genelecs in particular, but can't afford them yet.

They should most certainly be a significant step up from the BX8As. I think the Precision Studio series must have been different to the Advanced Studio Precision series. Either that or they re-engineered them at some stage. I've never heard of them referred to as PS, but always ASP or SP monitors. Anyway, I'll give you a report when I get mine on monday!

I'm really happy with my BX8As, I have yet to find monitors anywhere near this price point that I like as much actually. To get better monitors I'd have to spend over $1200 for a pair at least. No "surprise" mixes anymore, and I can mix for hours without fatigue.

I have a pair of Behringer Truths and KRK 8's as well as the SP8's, but really only use the Events but im picking this up in a few weeks, so i will be able to switch 2 sets of monitors.

I love my ASP8s, they are very easy to mix on not hyped as some speakers are in the top and bottom, very neutral.
which I like cause you have to work on your mix, and when its there!, it will translate very well on other systems.
