NEW Scar Symmetry !!!

First I really want to thank Jonas for taking the time out to do this....

Here is what they did on the latest Scar Symmetry release.

Drums:
We used a shitload of mics on the kit this time (24or25mics ridicilous), All tracked thru an old Amek Angela, some tracks were tracked with compression on them (rooms, snare+kick). Used 2tubetech-comps for that. Mono room was DBX 160sl I believe. Did some multi-samples for the snare with the snare we tracked, same goes for the kick. Some drumagog on kick and snare with those samples, they are not on all the time but most of the time they are and they are set something like 50/50 acoustic /sampled drums.

Bass:
Fender bass, Rat.pedal EBS Classic Amphead thru Ebs classic 8x10 speakers We miced it with an md 421, Straight in to cone playing on almost maximum volume!!! (between 8 and 9 on the volume knob), Then ran into SSL pre+distressor straight in to Protools thru the 96i interface. Then a second channel (reamped bass from line signal) Thru an hotrodded Marshall 800 going pretty loud!!

Rhytm guitars:
Modded Marshall JCM 900, Marshall JCM900 cab, 57 straight into cone into Amek purepath-Distressor into Pro-tools (or as he called it originally Fart-Tools...lol)

Leadguitars:
Egnater TOL 50...Same mic cab setup

Eehhh I guess that's what I remember and I was there hehe lol.

I know my answers are boring but I can not remember anything more..Hmmm oah yeah..Drank a lot of nasty swedish-beer:D Pripps Blå

Have a nice evening!!!

Cheeeeeeeeeeersx666/Jonas

FYI:I fixed some of the English, cause originally it was in the typical Jonas "I drink a shitload of beer, slurred engrish / svedish mixture" that he talks in. I find it amazing he types just like he talks when drunk ..... hahahahah

There's actually three full songs available on youtube ("Nonhuman Era", "The Consciousness Eaters", and "Noumenon and Phenomenon"), but I only like one of them (Nonhuman Era) somewhat. The two others are not much to write home about. That's why I want to hear the rest of the album, because the same thing happened with Holographic Universe: all the songs that were available before the album release were the weakest songs on it (for me).

Of course they probably will never return to their more energetic, faster style they had on Symmetric In Design, and a few tracks on Pitch Black Progress, but there's nothing stopping them from writing a handful of songs in that style too, in addition to their more recent slow stuff.

Man i wonder what type of mod they use on the 900. I thought those amps were almost like valvestates besides the tubes on the power amp.

is that not christian growling? sounds so similar. I really like this. too bad for the shitty quality, I cant wait to hear the real cd. this sounds like SS best guitar sound to date! they have perfected their sound for sure!

Fuck me, JCM 900 for rhythms? It sounds absolutely sick. Lead tone is nice too and awesome bass tone. Anyone know what they're using for a boost on the amps? Tube Screamer?
I'm getting along with the vocals too, I'm looking forward to buying this album.

goddamn that is a fucking IMMENSE guitar tone
this shit sounds 100x better than their other stuff as well actually, this is pretty decent indeed

My guess would the the Rat pedal they used on the bass. I didnt see a tube screamer anywhere in sight looking at the vids and photos. Not to say it wasnt there but the Rat would make more sense to me.

I will never be able to listen to this band because of the awful clean vocals (the singing isn't bad or anything, just very far from being my cup of tea)

JCM900 often gets underestimated - one of the most brutal yet warm sounding amps I've owned. Really regret having sold it.
